Welcome cocktail in the “Salles des Illustres” at the Capitole (City town hall)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00a0The Capitole was built in 1190 by the Capitouls to seat the municipal power and has been doing so for the past eight centuries. The name “Capitole” comes from the word “Chapitre” (chapter), “stage to the assembly”. It currently holds the city hall (H\u00f4tel de Ville), National Capitole Theater and Opera house. It welcomes civil wedding ceremonies and is known to be the city’s emblem.\u00a0 The building’s facade was conceived by the architect Georges Cammas and is composed of 8 pink marble columns symbolising the 8 Capitouls (Municipal magistrates) and of numerous statues such the ones of Cl\u00e9mence Isaure or\u00a0 of Pallas Ath\u00e9na. The courtyard is named the “Henry IV courtyard” as it holds the only statue of the king, made of his living and is the scene to his godson’s beheading, the Duke of Montmorency’s. The beautiful \u201cSalle des Illustres\u201d located in the Capitole is inspired by the Farnese Gallery in Rome where the golden mouldings compete with the beauty of the paintings in the cartouches amongst which you will recognise Caffarelli, Rivals, Pinel and Riquet. The room is 70 meters long and was classified a historic monument in 1994.\u00a0 We would like to thank the mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, for welcoming us in one of the city’s most remarkable historical rooms, the “Salle des Illustres” to celebrate the opening of the SED 2016 Annual Meeting in Toulouse by a welcome cocktail.<\/h3>\n

Gala dinner at the Domaine de Preissac<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Located in a magnificent 136 acre park, the Domaine de Preissac features a beautiful range of local architecture. Built during the 14th century accross a farming land, the estate holds a castle, stables, barns and housing to the former castle employees. The estate was refurbished during the 17th century to house King Fran\u00e7ois 1er’s mistress. Rehabilitated in 2006 to welcome events, the conference dinner will be held in the Manga room featuring a covered terrace overlooking the park. The evening will start by a cocktail in the gardens followed by a typical French sit-down dinner.<\/h3>\n<\/div>

The cloister located in the university gardens was named the clo\u00eetre “Saint-Pierre des Chartreux” and served as the cloister to the Church of the same name. It was built in 1602 by the Charteux brothers, who, expelled from the city Castres by the Protestant community, decided to build their own monastry in Toulouse. Today the remains of the cloister belong to the university, and this is where we will close the Toulouse SED meetings with a high standard \u201cSouthwest Barbecue, French Style\u201d, featuring some of the dishes the region of Toulouse and the Southwest of France are known for. You will find a range of local products: meat, fish, salads, cheeses, deserts, wine and other beverages and cooking shows.<\/h3>\n
